Say the word "autumn" around David and me and we'll conjure up 2 different images.
I'll think of warm, sunny California days (but I guess I would think of that with any season you mentioned!)
And David?
He'd remember cool, crisp weather, changing leaves and running with his cross-country team.
Well, our girls got a taste of David's version of autumn when we joined our friends for a short weekend getaway. Surrounded by concrete and buildings in the capital city, the orange and yellow leaves of this city 5 hours away from our home was breathtaking.
Hiking in the mountains
Upon returning from our trip, we discovered that our newly-planted saplings in the backyard had been blown over during the weekend's windstorm. They simply were not rooted firmly enough to withstand the winds.
Later that night, Verity and I sat down for our weekly mommy-daughter Bible study and the topic was about laying our foundation and our roots in Jesus. What a great visual for Verity to see the blown-over trees in our backyard ... a great reminder of how important it is to lay our roots in God who will be by our side in EVERY storm. She positively lit up when she connected the verse to what she had seen in our backyard.
Other than the trees, we had no concerns about the house while we were away. And why should we? We have Chingu, guard dog extraordinaire. I caught him outside our kitchen window barking ferociously at this neighbor fixing his roof.
