Having Fun with Forty-One

FORTY ONE. David amazes me. He is such a joyful child at heart yet so wise and experienced at the same time. The Williams Family is celebrating "Rocktober" once again and wishes both David and his younger-only-by-3-minutes brother, Daniel, a very happy 41st birthday today! Enjoy a pictorial tour of David's big day!

Boxes (care packages) have become a huge and very exciting part of our lives here. David's birthday box from his parents was no exception. Let the tearing, grabbing and screaming begin!!!

David's birthday box came with many "luxury items" like these Reese's peanut butter cups. We better hide and ration these!!! A canister of candy corn was another luxury item they sent that we'll have to slowly savor this month. We love seasonal treats!

Fridays are David's day to open AND close the cafe. He also teaches two back-to-back English courses at the cafe. So, David celebrated his 41st by spending 13 hours at the coffee shop! The girls were excited about bringing the "party" to him. The girls wrapped (all by themselves) little treats and homemade cards for their daddy.

Cooool!!! A box of Pop Tarts! They're not always available in this city but Verity was determined to find one box since she knows David likes them. We were disappointed at the first store that sometimes carries them but at the second store, Verity was thrilled to find a few on the top shelf. So we "splurged" on a box of Pop Tarts for David. My sister-in-law gets a kick out of the fact that our family uses the words "splurge" and "Pop Tarts" in the same sentence! =) But as you can imagine, Pop Tarts here aren't as cheap as they are in the U.S.

The day after his 13-hour marathon at the cafe, a few of David's friends came over to celebrate David's birthday by watching our favorite comedian's newest DVD (we love Brian Regan!) As we put Verity down for the night, she moaned, "Why do adults always throw parties while the kids are asleep?" =)

In this photo, our good friend, Dan, is sharing his birthday wishes as David holds his chocolate cupcake and ... a tealight. We just moved here a few weeks ago and our birthday candles are still locked up in some box somewhere. May be months before we find them. But we knew exactly where our tealights and candles were since our electricity goes out so often.

But David just went with the flow ... one of the many things I love about you! Happy 41st Birthday!!!
