First Pop Rocks: Do you remember the first time you opened up a packet of Pop Rocks? And how you loved to put your mouth up to a friend's ear so that they can hear the candy pop? Well, our girls heard about Pop Rocks at school and told me that they'd like to try some. David's parents were so sweet to mail a few packets ... here's a video of their first (noisy) Pop Rocks experience.
First Lost Tooth: Verity is MUCH braver than I ever was about my teeth. She lost her first tooth last week ... she let (!!) David pull it out. A few days later, she kept twisting her 2nd loose tooth around and around until it fell out. Posted below is a photo of her celebrating her 1st lost tooth. We shot a few poses of her sans tooth but I picked this one out just for Uncle Jake ... he'll appreciate that she's still flashing the victory sign she learned in Seoul! =)
First Hours of Life: Normally, when I get to hold an expat friend's baby, they are already 2-3 months old as most of us fly back home to the States to give birth. But one of our brave friends (and her doctor husband) decided to give birth here in this country so I got the unique privilege of holding their new baby boy when he was just about 48 hours old! I'm shown here with the baby's 2 older sisters (their 4th child is not pictured). It was such a special (and addicting) experience ... newborns are just heavenly to hold!
First "Break" of the Semester: After we landed here in late August, our family hit the ground running and haven't slowed down much since. Verity's school had a 4-day break and though we were still pretty busy, we finally had one Monday where we got to enjoy a slow morning (leisurely breakfast, reading & cuddling with the girls, etc). We even squeezed in a lunch at McDonald's with our friends.
First Oven "Fire": Well, it wasn't officially a full-fledged fire but it was pretty intense. I really struggle with this oven, it's tiny and it burns EVERYTHING. I've had to pack away all my 9x13 pans (they don't fit) and have had to tell myself our family just won't get to enjoy baked goods until we move again. My friend, Janie, brought over baked brie for us to enjoy as we played Settlers. I popped it on my silicone pan and put it in the oven for just 5 minutes. We soon smelled smoke! I opened the oven and out popped a blue mess ... and a huge charcoal brisket (formerly known as baked brie).
And now we're in November! I absolutely LOVE this time of the year ... Thanksgiving ... Christmas ... and all the family time it brings! Our family will once again begin our "Garland of Gratitude" tradition today and we'll certainly be counting you as one of our many blessings!
