Final Weekend Update

In just 7 days, our plane will touch down in Los Angeles!

And while we are thrilled about seeing you all, reading CNN.com lately (about Myanmar, the China quake and other world events) is a strong reminder to thank Him for the day ahead of us, rather than rushing ahead to the next. Our prayers are with those in Myanmar and China.

Unfortunately, I didn't have my camera at every event but here are a few
highlights from this past week....

Our girls enjoyed attending a Superman birthday party for a special friend turning 5. The guests were asked to wear blue and each were given the cool Superman emblem to wear. Look how cute the birthday boy looks in his Superman gear.

This country celebrated a string of holidays this past weekend ... one being the day their former President would have turned 85 (the deceased father of the current President). David heard the city spent a million dollars on flowers that were to be displayed on the seaside boardwalk by our flat. We decided last-minute to go with our neighbors to take a look at these "million dollar flowers."

You're seeing in the photo exactly what we saw that afternoon... lots of concrete and hordes of people but no flowers in sight. But just being outside enjoying the be
autiful weather with new friends still made us feel like a million bucks!

Mother's Day 2008! How touching it was to be able to sleep-in and to hear David tooling around in the kitchen. He got up early and made us what he affectionately named "cuddly bear pancakes." The reason why I am posting the photo is because I want to celebrate how he has improved in the kitchen.

Some of you may have heard stories about his famous 2002 cooking adventures. One night, when I was pregnant with Verity and didn't feel well enough to cook dinner, he served up 4 different kinds of canned vegetables and proudly called it "vegetable ho-down." So, you can see why I am so proud of his pancakes! He even added brown sugar and nutmeg to the mix (very tasty additions) and served my pancakes on the special red plate to boot!

One of the biggest highlights of this weekend was the fact that Verity's school moved to a bigger building yesterday! What a huge blessing from God! The school enrollment is steadily growing and we have outgrown the old home.

The school has moved to a 2-story house with tons of room to grow! The top two photos show Verity's new kindergarten classroom, the bottom left shows the very
first school assembly in the spacious "living room" and the bottom right shows part of the (larger) library! Verity is soooo excited about her new building.

Most importantly, we want to wish a very Happy Mother's Day to our top-notch mothers! Where would we be without the patient and wise care we received from our mothers, Holly Lee and Nancy Williams! We love you and wish you a wonderful Mother's Day! And we want to wish a very Happy Birthday to Floyd Williams (David's dad) today ... we love you and also wish you a fantastic birthday!

See you all soon! This is probably our last post from this side of the Atlantic. Lord-willing, our next post will be up in a few days letting you know that we have landed safely in California!

P.S. (ADDED JUNE 2nd) One more set of photos I wanted to add ... On Annalise's last day of preschool before our flight, we celebrated her birthday at school with pink cupcakes. Annalise is pictured below with all the preschool teachers and then with some of her classmates. Her birthday isn't until late June but I know what it's like to grow up with a summer birthday (and never getting to celebrate at school like my classmates) so I wanted to squeeze in this cupcake celebration before our flight.
