The conversation turned to what life is like for me as a foreigner in this country and then I asked him what life is like for HIM in this country. He then shared that he had worked 30 years for the KGB.
"Was it hard?" I asked him. [I know ... really dumb question ... but I wasn't sure what I was and was not allowed to ask a former KGB member!]
He pulled off his hat to reveal his bald head and laughed, "It's why I have no more hair."
I met his daughter and learning she lived nearby, I gave her my phone # so we can get our girls together to play. It's an interesting part of the world we live in ... David grew up fascinated by the Soviet Union and back in 1991, had the privilege of standing in Moscow's Red Square and watching the USSR flag fly for the LAST time in history!!! Imagine the stories this KGB man must have.
Good thing we took their bikes out for a test run that day ... New Year's Eve brought us a HUGE snowfall! Happy 2009 everyone!
