Sisterly Love

February 14th ... this date on the calendar means different things to different people.

For David and me, it's a day when we can celebrate this wonderful marriage God has given us. (I did lay down one ground rule early on... never buy me flowers on Valentine's Day. I worked in a flower shop in Hollywood during my freshman year at UCLA and I know what flowers should cost on a normal day.)

And for our girls, it's a fun day to celebrate God's love for us ... and, of course, to decorate Valentine's Day cards for classmates, to frost heart-shaped cookies or to (as the above photos show) enjoy new Valentine outfits from their grandparents. We want our family to never forget that we love "because God first loved us" (1 John 4:19).

It's also a day for us to celebrate my dad's birthday ... happy 59th birthday to a GREAT dad & grandfather!!! Praise God that next year is your big 6-0! God has given you a long, full, love-filled life! Happy Birthday, Peter Lee! We love you!!!

For this year's Valentine's post, I'd like to publicly celebrate the sisterly love our girls share with one another.

I am pretty sure Moriah will be upset with me for posting these next few photos but ...

I couldn't resist.

I mean, come on ... how thrilled am I that her two older sisters are excited about helping Moriah potty-train?

Take a look ...

Verity & Annalise may not look too excited in the photo but it was only because they weren't excited about my camera. But they both JUMPED at the opportunity to hold Moriah's hands (Annalise holding Moriah's right hand and Verity holding her left) while Moriah sat on the potty.


Then, Verity took a break while Annalise grabbed some books and "read" them to Moriah. One of the hardest parts about potty-training for me is the amount of time it takes to sit down with the child and read to them while they ... well, while they get "used" to the potty.


Then Moriah decided she wanted to try out the smaller potty and Verity jumped back into the mix. This time, she read (for real) some books to Moriah. I love having helpers!

I remember checking out at Target a few days after Moriah was born and the cashier looked incredulous as I pulled a package of pull-ups, a package of size 4 diapers and a package of newborn diapers out of my cart.

"THREE in diapers?" she asked.

"Yes," I answered.

But now that's a distant memory. If Verity & Annalise can keep reading to Moriah, I think I'm on my way to having NOBODY in diapers!

This Valentine's Day, may the truth in John 3:16 be more real to you than ever. We know this "potty" post was quite a silly one but we hope you'll look beyond that to the celebration of God's love, family and friendship. Happy Valentine's Day!
