In the Right Place at the Right Time

Marc Baxis. Brother-in-law. Talented fashion designer. Avid fly fisherman. And more recently ... a lifesaver.

During his recent trip to Florida to visit with one of David's sisters and her family, they were spending a relaxing day on (a crowded) b
each when Marc heard noises from the water.

A woman was drowning. Thanks to his previous experience as a lifeguard, Marc was able to swim through the rough surf conditions and grab the woman - (who was also pregnant!) - in the nick of time. (Many people approached Marc afterwards and told him how glad they were he was there because they knew they couldn't have helped this woman).

During the save, she pleaded with Marc, "Please do not let me die."

Marc answered back, "I have you, you're going to be fine."

I can't even imagine the relief and joy this woman felt as Marc carried her to shore. The paramedics administered oxygen to her and then took her to the hospital.

There are many powerful spiritual analogies we can draw from this ... and the image I can't shake from my head is of the woman's face when she realizes that Marc has her and that they
are heading safely towards shore. I honestly feel like this is how God comes to my aid at times ... with reassuring words like, "I have you, you're going to be fine."

Marc, thanks for allowing God to use you in such a powerful way in this woman's life.

On a lighter note, David took some risks of his own while exploring mud volcanoes in the area. He fell into an extremely deep one (his feet never touched the bottom!), but was able to pull himself out when he threw his upper body across the outer edge. You definitely need to keep an eye on children who choose to explore these cool natural phenomena. Come visit & we'll introduce you to these mud volcanoes!

Somewhere in storage in the U.S. I have a photo of us playing mud football from our days at Vanderbilt. I am glad to see you still enjoy mud.
