Still exuberant about UCLA's victory against USC (thus snapping their 7-year winning streak against us) ... we just celebrated a 7-year winning streak of our own. Today was our 7th wedding anniversary!
This was my year to plan our anniversary celebration (I take the odd years, Jenni plans the even years). And because our anniversary is so close to Christmas, we decided to follow the traditional anniversary symbols to take the guesswork out of our gift-giving. Since the traditional symbol for the 7th anniversary is wool, we gave each other scarves this year (a necessity for the winter here)!
I surprised Jenni with a night out at the opera. The opera house just 3 blocks from our flat was playing La Traviata. This was Jenni's first time watching an opera and she really enjoyed it (though we only made it through the first half). Since it was in Italian, we decided to read the English synopsis in our program to find out what happens in the second half and spend the rest of the evening alone at a restaurant instead.
This morning, we showed the girls our wedding video and they loved seeing their parents all dressed-up. In another segment of our home video, we were watching ourselves pack up our San Diego apartment to move to Orange County. The date on the footage was May 2002. Just a little over 4 years ago! We were reminiscing about all that has happened since then ... we bought a townhome, had 3 children, finished a master's program, moved out of that townhome and now, we are settling-in overseas.
And we wonder why we feel so tired.
But to be serious, when we think about the last 7 years, we are overwhelmed with gratitude for the tremendous blessings God has given us! We're looking forward to 70 more years of marriage (and of course, 70 more years of UCLA victories against USC). I'll only be 109 years old by then.
